Sensei John Carlow, 4th Dan
Sankokai Shinsei Karate Maidstone Dojo 2023
Sensei John Carlow is a 4th Dan in Karate. He is an independent instructor registered with the English Karate Organisation and the founder of Sankōkai Shinsei Karate. John has been training for over twenty years and has studied multiple styles, beginning with Tang Sou Dao (a Korean-derived form of karate), as well as Shukokai and Sankukai.
John lives with Crohn’s disease, ADHD, and was recently diagnosed with autism. These experiences shape his belief that Karate is one of the best medicines for both body and mind. His own neurodivergence gives him a deep understanding of the focus, structure, and sensory regulation that martial arts can provide. He is particularly passionate about creating a training environment where neurodivergent students can thrive—Karate’s clear routines, physical rhythm, and mindful movement make it uniquely supportive for learners who think and process the world differently.
Sensei John loves to teach kata, and especially enjoys kihon and form work.
As a disabled instructor, he is particularly adamant that being unable to participate in sparring—whether through disability, health, or simply personal preference—should never prevent students from learning and enjoying everything Karate has to offer.
Sensei John is assisted by his partner, Michaela Gregorova, 5th Kyu.
John is also a personal trainer.
